I inherited a 15" Powerbook from my boss. I reformatted the HD and loaded OX 10 Jaguar. Now the Hard Drive is known as a "/" If I name the HD anthing after rebooting or shutting down the new name goes away and it is back to / Any ideas???? When I formatted the drive I had a choice of Mac Extended Op Sys or Unix and I chose Unix.

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Go back to Mac OS Extended. There are many apps that do not work on UFS formatted disks. Also, I don't believe that UFS has any disk label support, which would explain the "/".

Why did you choose Unix? If you haven't got a specific reason for it I too suggest a quick reformat.
