I was wondering ... when did they introduce the first icebook ? Isn't it something like 3 years ago ?
Don't you think the iBook is the next Apple hardware that's gonna be changed completly ? The G5 has been introduced, the powerbook line has been changed (except the Ti), the iMac is pretty new ... And the iBook is so important for the education and consumer market at Apple, they must be preparing something wonderful ;-) Don't you think ?

It'll probably be completely replaced in the next year or so -- but when you think about it, the Ti is much older than the dual usb ibook.

So I guess the big change could come as early as Macworld SF next January ... I hope they will change the color (from white to grey or even black ?). Maybe they could introduce a tablet iBook as well ;-)
I would bet on a 11" tablet/13"/15" iBook lighter, thinner and with faster G3's with altivec and wireless/bluetooth built-in. They need to update the iBook line to compete with HP/Dell and their cheap windows laptops. Apple has some very interesting prices but 12" is just not enough to compete. What do you think ?

No colour change. White is the Edu/Consumer colour, so it would confuse things in the matrix.
As for a total revamp... Hmm, don't think so. I think evolution rather than revolution for the moment. There is just no need for dramatic changes.
Bluetooth, Airport Extreme built in next, and perhaps a G4...
I personally think that the 12" Powerbook albeit with a different casing, will one day (soon?) be the next iBook...
Peace,
Marc
P.S. I still wish they had incorporated a handle into the icebook design...

Tablets are failing in the marketplace except for a very few vertical markets. They may take off some day, but not right now. So I don't see Apple releasing one in January.
And a G3 with altivec is a G4.
I do agree that Apple needs to get more agressive with their low-end pricing. A nice iBook in the $6-700 range would be a great entry-level laptop. Especially if they'd start using some of the 1 Ghz G3s that are around.

If one look at the windows world today, there are centrinos notebook that are very expensive and the others that are not with some of them that are really attractive in terms of price.
Apple should come with a 14 or 15" iBook, 256 MB RAM, Airport Extreme, 30 GB HD, combo drive for €999 (tax included) (about the same in $).
iBook line = focus on low price with good technology.
Powerbook = fair price with superior technology.
Maybe that's what they already do right now btw
