It's just a coincidence. The way I understand the LCD technology, it would be impossible for a power surge of any kind to affect just a single pixel on the screen.
More likely, you just didn't notice it until then. On the high res screens like on the newer TiBooks, the 12" AlBook and the 12" iBook, the pixels are so darned small that they're hard to notice anyway.
My screen has one dead pixel about an inch from the right side, halfway down the screen. I noticed that almost right away, and it's noticable on light backgrounds. (The green portion is broken, it doesn't light. The red and the blue work fine.) It really just looks like a piece of dust stuck to the screen, nothing major. For several months I thought that was the only pixel anomaly on my screen. About a month ago, though, while I was staring at a black screen waiting for fsck to finish, I noticed a purple stuck one (red and blue stuck on) right in the middle of the screen. I wouldn't know it was there if I hadn't noticed it then.
It's likely it just took you a while to find it... the ones that are stuck off are easy to see, but the ones that are stuck on (unless they're white) are almost invisible.
