Well, I got tired of waiting for the 15" update.
My main concern with buying the current tiBook was the poor airport
reception. I think I can solve that problem with a PCMCIA
card for 802.11g.
I really don't think the updated PB will be that much better
than what is out there now. Bluetooth is a nice to have but
not necessary. Airport Extreme can be had with the PC Card.
The only thing would be better video card and a slightly faster
bus/cpu. Not really a reason to wait in my opinion.
Oh well, I'm expecting my new baby on 7/22.
Cheers,
Bill

Good for you!
I love it when someone makes an independent decision and actually buys an Apple instead of just whining about how they're gonna sit on their hands until the next update.
PB 15" is a fantastic machine.. I'm sure you'll love it

I am going to bite the bullet too and just buy a 15TI 1GHZ MAXED OUT. Actuallly the video card in the 15 is better than the one in the 12 and 17 hehe. Wana c what I want!!
1GHz PowerPC G4
• 512MB SDRAM - 1 DIMM
• 60GB Ultra ATA drive
• SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
• AirPort Card
• Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• iPod - 15GB
• APP for PowerBook (w/ or w/o display) - Enrollment Kit
• 15.2-inch TFT Display
Subtotal $3,447.00
Then I will use EDU discount and get 300 bucks off I believe. I think its the best time to buy right now. I changed my mind totally hehe. here is the problem. more special offers are available without discount. Although I prbably dont need that macromedia package.
My concern is that the keyboard will leave marks on the display. Not to worried about the paint issue. Also I would like to get a second display but maybe later. What I really need is one of those Fantom External HDs for backup I will buy that on macmall or something. So its all good!

You're going to love it. there's no reason to sit around waiting when we don't know when the next rev will be. even if they announce it i August, chances are it won't be readily available until late September/early October - if you're lucky.
This is a great machine in every sense of the word. Enjoy!

Thanks I'm looking forward to it. Also, my sister, who has been
a PC user for years has gotten hooked on the Mac. My niece got
an iBook for graduation and my sister had it for a week and didn't
want to give it up! She'll be buying a PB 15" next week.
In one month, I've gotten 3 people in my family to switch.

Yes you are correct sorry for caps. Even if I wait it wont ship for 6 or more weeks lol. Plus the TI is a revD! I have made my sister wait now I am going to tell her to go with a TI, She is a grad student and her scholarship will cover over 3000 dollars worth of equipment because she is so freaken smart. hehe. Beats my 500 bucks off I believe for student discount. We will both get the same config as I stated

That's about what I'm getting config-wise. Except for the iPod, I've already got the 30GB. :-) I bought an extra 512MB from Crucial.
And I'll be getting an 802.11g card if the airport doesn't cut it.

Don't worry about the display marks... I have that exact machine and have noticed a mark maybe, twice at most. It easily wipes away with a soft cloth, no water or anything.
If you're REALLY concerned, check these out:

Also... get some iKlear form the apple store for cleaning the LCD/finish of the PB... works great. I just clean my LCD every couple days and never notice a THING on it.

Nice I will get the cover. I thought the marks were permanent lol. So you gave me good news that they wipe off I am going to wait a week. I dont got a credit card yet so I might order by debit, or have my dad order however and give him the check. Probably the ladder. I am very excited.
I am going to get RAM from crucial too so taht i got a gig of it hehe. I am also getting a new printer to replace my epson 740. Probably the nice HP would do well. My sis just got one and it is awesome.

Something I use is www.iskin.com.
It's a silicon keyboard cover that you keep on all the time. It feel soft and rubbery so you need to get used to it but it protects the LCD as well as the keyboard and computer from spills (except that you can still spill in the speaker grills....).
All in all a nice product I'd recommend. Or why not just use a sheet of paper?
In any case, it's a minor issue.

Marware makes a keyboard pad that sits right into of the keyboard so the keys don't make marks on the screen. Apple Store near you... that's where i got mine. I think Marware.com is their site.

The marks are just the oils from your fingers being transferred from the keyboard to the display where they touch. Clean them off now and then and no worries.

If you want to max out the RAM, go to MacMall.com. They're running a promotion where you get the RAM maxed out, a new photo printer (either epson or hp), free carrying case, free MYOB FirstEdge, and free shipping on the 15" TiBook.

We ussually order are macs from macmall so I know they are good too. I dont know why I forgot about them hehe
I am very happy I CANT WAIT!

I'm soon gonna be a switcher... I've been using PC's all my life, but lately I've been playing around with the Apple's here at school, and man, I love the software and just how smooth Apples are! Being a grad student in computer science, I definitely appreciate the Unix inside the OS. Hmmm. I am thinking of buying the 15 PB, revision or not, but I think I am going to wait until about September 20. The reason being that right now, there is a $200 rebate going for buying the bundle of the ipod and the pb which expires September 29. That gives me some time to wait. Still, I can't wait to buy a 15. This laptop is awesome. For now, i'm gonna have to plunk around on my Dell... I'm gonna bite the bullet too and regardless of whether or not they revise it in sept, i'm gonna buy it!
Have a great weekend everyone!

I wouldn't sweat the 802.11g angle too much. Frankly, for all but the biggest file transfers it's not a big deal. I have both AirPort and AirPort Extreme PowerBooks and the whole wireless deal is equal. Range, speed, reliability.
I'm looking at gettting a 1 GHz PowerBook 15.2" but waiting to see it a new model brings down the price of current ones significantly. Then I'm all over it!

I just found out I can get all that I want for like 2600 dollars. I can get a 300 dollar rebate for the printer and iPod!
• 1GHz PowerPC G4
• 512MB SDRAM - 1 DIMM
• 60GB Ultra ATA drive
• Combo Drive (DVD-ROM/CD-RW)
• AirPort Card
• Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
• APP for PowerBook (w/ or w/o display) - Enrollment Kit
• 15.2-inch TFT Display
I probably still should wait as long as I can for the panther thing but this is a good deal.
