Alright, I have about 5 gig worth of MP3s and what not on my PC that I want on my new iBook 800. The MP3s are actually stored on an external 60GB fireware HD.

Is there anyway to tranfer those files onto my iBook?

Thanks!

1. Plug Firewire drive into iBook
2. Transfer files.
3. There's no step 3! (Anyone remember that old iMac commercial? )

Well, I wish it were that easy. I think it has something to do with the way I orginnally formated it (NTFS or FAT32 or somthing), but the iBook does not recognize the drive.

It gives me the option to reformat it -- obviously not what I want to do - but does not mount as a PC CD etc would.

OSX reads most PC formats...

But either way.

Get a Cat5 cable (maybe straight, maybe crossover... it depends on how new your PC NIC or iBook are, and whether they support autosensing), plug them into each other (if your PC even has an NIC, that is), set up Windows file sharing on the ibook, set up both machines on the same subnet, give them IP addresses.

Via "Network Places" on the PC, let it connect to the iBook at:

\\IPADDRESS\user

Done.

If you need more detailed instructions, ask.

(NIC = network card, basically)
