I have been browsing the forum for the last couple of months, reading various posts in the PowerBook and iBook groups.

I have also been lusting over the hardware at the Apple Store and at my local PCWorld.

Being an IT teacher, I was eligable for a discount so I finally managed to sell my desktop PC and apply for a loan on a PowerBook 12".

Unfortunately, I was denied credit, so the next day I blagged my Dad into taking me to the local PCWorld where I have been loitering the past few months, playing with the Mac section, albeit a low range of models.

Anyhow, I walked out with a iBook 14" with which I am very happy. It's a little slower than my XP1600, however I'm still to update with 512mb Crucial and AirPort.

I was also a little frustrated by the sometimes slow CDRW burn speeds, however I have emulated a few burns with the free Verbatim supplied with the book and all burned at 24x so I will be putting in an order sometime soon with an online CDR retailer.

So anyway, thanks to any and all whose posts helped me end up with the computer I'm with now. Again, I'm more than happy, I love the 14" screen for my movies, I have my Moto T720 iSync'd and can also surf the Net using my phone when its plugged in with the USB cable.

My neck would also like to thank the 14" display - perhaps not as portable but great for watching movies, especially with the extra hour battery life.

Looking forward to getting AirPort very soon and browsing MacNN in bed. *mmm*

Cheers.

Congrats, Welcome to Macintosh! Wondering... why'd you go with the 14" instead of the 12"? Same res. and all, and IMO the 12" looks so much better.

Glad you're happy with your purchase! It'll be much speedier once you bump it to 640 MB.

Two reasons.

1) I find the larger screen more ergonomic, as I don't have to bend my neck as much. I also don't have to strain my eyes as much - it is more easy to read.

2) I watch a lot of movies on this so they are much more enjoyable. I also play a few games which look better on a larger screen. (I'm aware there is no resolution difference).

Welcome, and let us all hope that's the first and last time that you have to deal with PC World - especially regarding a Mac!
