I need to connect to my desktop PC but my laptop comes up as unidentified. How can I mound my laptop as a drive on my PC?

Not with Firewire. Get yourself an Ethernet crossover cable, initiate Windows File Sharing on your Mac in the Sharing icon of System Preferences, and connect to the Mac from Windows (the address to use for the PC is given to you in the Sharing window of System Pref) and that should do the trick. Unless you buy third party software for your PC, you won't be able to mount the Mac drive in Windows using Firewire. The Mac's HD is HFS+ formatted, the PC is likely NTFS or FAT32.

Cheers,
