Hi,
I was looking around the net, trying to find the specs for Titanium LCD and a comparison to the 17". Can someone who has worked with both tell me how different it is?
I have seen the LCD of a 500Mhz G4-Ti and the 12" LCD kicks its a**. I hope the 1Ghz G4-Ti has a different one.

I've seen side by side views of the 17" PB LCD vs the 15"... and the 17" is much, much brighter. Hopefully the new 15" PB will have an ultra-sharp looking 15.4" screen.

I have the 15" GigaBook SD. It uses a much brighter backlight than older TiBook models, and I too have played with it side by side with the 17" in the store. The 15" and 17" are very close in brightness, but if anything I'd give the edge to the 15". Regardless of which is better, both the 15" and 17" are MUCH brighter than the 12" PowerBook (and 12" iBook), and thus noticeably less yellow.
But if you're in the market for a new 15", you might want to wait until the end of August if you can. Mind you, if none appears then, they you'll have been 15"-less for a whole month you could have been using the computer had you purchased it now.

I had originally planned on getting a 25% off Dual G5 with Dual LCDs from ViewSonic.
But my plans changed when I got my final university timetable. I realized that I will be spending most of the time in labs and classes and on campus (I live off campus). That's why I'm going to sell my DA-733 and my 17" Studio Display and with some extra money on top of that purchase a nice 15" Powerbook with a 15GB iPod and a 17-19" LCD.
The first machine I considered was the 1Ghz Titanium... it's a great machine and has decent speed. But the more I look at it, the more I realize it shows signs that it's yesterdays machine: ATA66, no DDR RAM, no AE, old LCD (LCD technology improves by the minute)
I also found out that I can use my 25% on any Apple product. Thus, I would like to wait for a bit and then purchase a new 15" PB.

True... but I am willing to take that risk... besides it's summer, I will enjoy so many other things... the PB will be here at the end of the summer too.

I had three Tis. First a 400, then a 550, and then a 1GHz Superdrive. The displays got brighter with each revision, and when I compared my TiSD to a 17" in a shop a couple of months ago the Ti was marginally brighter.
My new 17" however, is brighter than my old TiSD (I put them side by side as I sold it to a friend), so I wonder if Apple are already using new LCDs in the machines they're shipping. No reason not to switch suppliers, really, is there?
Both machines are lovely. I don't think you can go too far wrong with either of them. I'm happiest with my 17" purely because the fan doesn't run 85% of the time.
Best of luck with whatever you choose!

It would be a good thing to wait, esp. because of the 25% discount and the possibility of a 15" AluBook in August.
However, some of your other reasons may not really be good reasons.
1) ATA66 - No laptop drive in existence can even come close to maxing out ATA66.
2) DDR - There is marginal benefit to DDR on the new PowerBooks, since the 7455 G4 and the upcoming 7457 G4 cannot use DDR. It communicates with DDR memory at SDR speeds. For example with gaming, many games run FASTER on the TiBook than the 17" AluBook, because of the (sometimes) better video card.
3) AE - Depends, but most universities have implemented 802.11b not 802.11g, so the extra speed would be superfluous anyway (at least for a couple of years). If you run it at home with an 802.11g Airport Extreme base station, again the extra speed would be wasted because broadband is much slower than 802.11b. That said, it would be a nice benefit if you had a home network and wanted to connect to access files on other computers.
4) LCD - The current TiBook LCDs are top notch (as are the current 17" LCDs).

I am not going to wait any longer: I am ordering the 17inch. I can get it with the USD300 education discount. What the hell if a newer faster model is coming. That one will be more expensive as well. I think that I am getting a good deal especially as I am getting an additional USD200 as Iam ordering a new Ipod at the same time 9just as Iam getting myself an Isight and FC Express) USD 3500 after all discounts is a superprice I think.
However if one of you believes that I am wrong, please do tell me so.

If you need it right now man, go for it. If you can wait for another while, then wait. If knew ones are released the only thing that can happen to the current models is an additional price cut.

I agree - go for it and don't look back. The worst that can happen is that world will end because you bought the wrong machine.
Seriously, though - it would take a very fast computer indeed to make up for the time elapsed between a purchase tomorrow (for example) and when the new machines come out and actually ship (whenever that is).
Go for it, and let us know how you get on.
