I know the normal brightness controls, but I want it darker then the lowest without going black. Any ideas? kernal patch maybe?

the lowest brightness setting on my 12" PB is more than sufficient in a dark room for me, but i'd much rather live with a brighter-than-necessary screen than take on the possible risks and instabilities of a kernel patch... seems a bit extreme for what's really a mild inconvenience.

Use SuperCal to adjust the gamma.

Leave the screen on for a few months straight?

I hope you don't mind me asking, but why?

It sounds dumb, but my roommate wakes up when im using my PB bcause of the light, even at lowest setting, so i thought i could go darker and it would work best for both of us.
Thanks!

I can't figure out how to use OS X display calibrate or Supercal to make it darker?
Any ideas?

Read the apps that come with SuperCal, then follow the childlike onscreen directions.
