So I am sitting here at work checking the status on my order, and my new 12" PB Combo with max options is sitting at home waiting for me! I am so excited I want to leave work right now, lol. The delivery date said tomorrow but FED EX came a day early so they rock. I will post impressions tonight and throughout the week. I know a lot of people have gotten a 12" PB, but I remember a few weeks ago I was on the fence wether to get one or wait, so maybe me doing some writeups on my experience can help someone out. Only 4 1/2 hours left before I go home.

Congrats, but it would really suck if Apple released the updates today, a Tuesday. Or next Tuesday for that matter. But you'll love it anyway. Now if only my wait could be over soon :-)

No it won't, good for the people yet to order, doesn't mean I can't use my machine for what I need it for. Besides, whats the point in living life waiting for something better, and never enjoying what you have? If they update tomorrow so be it, but I waited months before hand so I don't care. I just want to get out of work now damnit lol.
Ahh just under 4 1/2 hours till I go home now lol.

Way to stick a pin in his balloon.
Congrats on your new baby. I'm sure you'll love it! Rest assured that Apple some day will update the little beast, and rest assured you will still love your PB!

Even if they did release new machines tomorrow, I doubt very much that they would be more than small speedbumps. Enjoy your new toy.

Oh man, I wish I could do that. I've had my mouse hovering over the Place Order button for a few days now.
Yet another Tuesday has come and gone, I might as well just go for it. The Edu promo is too good to pass up right now.
Make sure you post some pics and impressions when you get it set up!

Hey this sounds like me in hopefully a week or so! I am going to order a 12" combodrive with the 60GB and Airport Ex - I get paid on thursday and cant deposit my check until later that day and my check usually doesn't clear until Saturday morning - So anyway I am going to order my system on Saturday - Does anyone have a good guess on how long it will take for them to configure and ship the powerbook to Kentucky? I plan on getting the fastest shipping possible, so I am hoping to order it Saturday morning, is getting the PB on Wednesday too optimistic?

I ordered my Powerbook last wednesday, and it was shipped I think saturday morning, I had 2-3 priority shipping. So it was pretty quick once they actually shipped the machine. I had other things on my order but I choose to ship as they were available, and the priority shipping was only 18 more bucks, well worth it.

Alright I went to the Apple Store website and I was playing around with the configurations for the 12" PB and I removed the SuperDrive option for the higher end model and when I hit continue it says that there is a problem with the order because I also have to select the keyboard that is NOT for the SuperDrive PowerBook!
Whats the difference between a keyboard that is offered on the SuperDrive model and the Combo model?
When the new 12" PB is announced I'm buying that and handing my 12" PB off to my sis!

I am not sure I get the problem. Basically they have two models of 12" PB's. One with a supdrive and one without. They both have the same set of options, one is not better than the other. Try picking the combo drive model and adding RAM or HD as you need.

waitaminute.
As I sit here mulling over the 12" PB (simply because the 15" won't do airport extreme), I'm getting the distinct impression that if I order one today, I could not get it overnighted or 2-day'ed to me by, say Friday.
Is this true?

For me when I ordered was not when they shipped the machine, but I added options to it so it probably added time to it since it was not the standard build. As for shipping I think you can do no better than 2-3 priority.

I ordered, using 1-800-my-apple, on a Tuesday morning, and got my PB around noonish that Friday, but maybe try Amazon or somebody like that and see what their shipping looks like as well.

Congrats on your new PB. I ordered my ibook through Amazon and it was much faster than anything I've received through the Apple Store.

Yeah, the problem is that I was hoping to take advantage of the special edu pricing. The deal runs through 9/27. The issue for me is that my wife and I are moving across the country, and she's coveting my iPod for the trip. I had hoped to be able to pick up a new PB and an iPod for her via that school bundle deal, but there's just no way it can get here before we pack up and hit the road on Monday.
Harumph. I suppose I'll just let her use it and I can scream at the talk radio as I drive across Kansas.
BTW, nice to see another Mississippian on these boards! I went to college up the road from you in Hattiesburg.

Excellent... congrats on the PB!
Don't let the nay sayers get you down, even if a new model comes out in an hour you'll still have an excellent machine. Just because something newer is out doesn't mean your PB is any less a kick ass piece of hardware.

Hey guys sorry I didn't get the pics up, I had to take my car into the shop last night and a family crisis afterwards. That said I did take some pics, they will be up later today after work, I am gonna prob start a new thread with a review.
My initial thoughts: This machine kicks ass. First off I am sure some people are worried about the heat. So far I must say this machine has no heat problem at all. Left side gets warm but not hot. When I installed all the updates it was warm to a little hot, but not burning me so I felt relieved. Also when its charging that seems to make it warmer, when I was draining the battery and walking around with it, it was very cool. So don't let the hot issue worry you, so far not a factor. Here is a excellent point: I moved 31 gigs for MP3s from my imac to the new PB and I did it on battery power, and it was not even that warm. So plugged in seems to cause the most heat.
Besides that, this machine is awesome. The small screen is not bad at all, though with a lot of windows open you can run out of room, Expose will fix this. Wireless reception is good, though prob not up to ibook standards, very close though.
Anyway I am at work, I will put up the pics tonight though, I apologize for the delay, but sometimes things happen we cannot control. I will post a full review as well, but for now let me say this powerbook is awesome, and have no complaints, I am glad I bit the bullet.
More later on!!!

What?!? What are you talking about?? Don't say things like that! You're really freaking me out!
Congrats on the new PB. Sorry to hear about broken cars and family crises.
It's funny you should mention the small screen. Yesterday I began rethinking my "need" for the 15" screen (I'm going to upgrade from my iBook soon), and I hadn't even thought about expose fixing any problems with window clutter.
Cheers

I received my new 12" PowerBook last Friday ... I am also extremely happy with it so far, and I also find the screen perfectly adequate. (I'm accustomed to a 14" PC notebook screen and the 15" screen on my iMac, which now seems expansive beyond all belief.) The only niggling issues I've had:
1. The cover/screen does not close perfectly flatly. When latched, the left corner touches the case but the right corner is raised a millimeter or two. Not that bad, but slightly annoying on an expensive machine.
2. Last night, for the first time, I had some battery issues. (I haven't yet done the run-down, recharge calibration.) When I was supposed to have 40% left, the system suddenly went to sleep and could not be awakened. After I plugged in, it would awaken but it seemed not to recognize that a battery was in place, and the green lights on the back of the machine were not on. The problem seemed to go away after a while, but I really hope it's not a continuing thing.
