Now that a few more of you have a 12" PB, I wanted to know how the superdrives are working..

Does anyone have experience with producing a DVD from iMovie or FCexpress through burning it with iDVD?

My "older" G4/867 with a 1x DVD-R has been great, probably over 50 iDVD burns with hardly a coaster.

thanks!

I've created a number of DVDs using iMovie and iDVD, no problems at all. I don't think I've had a single coaster yet. iDVD does have a tendency to mess up your menus but I don't think that its the powerbooks fault and I believe some of those issues have been addressed in the recent update. Not done much from Final Cut Express yet but intend to use this over iMovie in the future.

I will say this: I have had a much higher rate of failure (discs that don't pass toast's validation) with the internal superdrive than with my external firewire DVD-R drive. It may partially be due to the media I am using, but even "name brand" high quality media seems to me more hit and miss with the internal drive. Don't know why.

But in general, it works pretty well.

I haven't had any problems since I started using TDK 2x media -- as long as I make sure the machine is on a very stable surface. Previously, I had a batch (3 boxes) of Apple branded media that gave me fits.

I agree about the movement. I've created 2 coasters while moving the PB in the middle of a burn. Even a slight jolt can cause it to fail. I've tried Memorex, TDK, and Apples DVDs. I created a few coasters in the beginning with the Memorex DVDs but that was more user error than the superdrive. No issues with TDK or Apple brand.
