I heard somewhere that Lombard PBs can't playback DVDs with OS X. Is this true? And if so, why not?

Yes, this is true.

Apple chose not to allow it.

Does anyone know if there's a way around this? I'd really like to use my old powerbook as a media center. All I need is iTunes and DVD playback...
