Hi all-
I have a most perplexing problem with my PowerBook 12in. I've had it for a couple of weeks now and have only one problem with it: it crashes nastilly when using my Sony 256MB MicroVault. But it's not so simple as JUST that...

So, if the PowerBook's screen is on, then it will usually (90% of the time) have the problem. The image on the screen gets white horizontal lines shot through it and the colors go all wonky; plus the system quits responding (although ctrl+apple+power reboots and the capslock light still goes on and off at the touch of the button). Furthermore, if you take the drive out and stick it back in, the screen looks even screwier, adding more and more distortion everytime the device is re-insterted. Now then, the other 10% of the time, it works completely fine. It even works fine so long as the screen is off (either the computer is in standby, off, etc. when the device is inserted).

The problem really vexes me, since I've used it on a myriad of desktop G4's without issue! I've tried reformatting the device, I even tried giving it a Mac format, but that didn't work.

Does anyone have any clues out there for me?

I use a Sony MicroVault on my Pismo PB with out any problems at all. Have you tried other devices that draw power from the USB port? Maybe a friend with a MicroVault, or other USB Memory Stick to see if it causes the same problems? Did you run a virus check of the MicroVault? Other than that, seems kinda strange. Is the book new?? Maybe give Apple a call. Let us know if you get it resolved though. I use a MicroVault and want a 12" PB here in the near future.
