I'm taking my beloved Pismo to school this fall, and just recently paid for the PowerLogix 900MHz upgrade. The box should get here soon. I held back for a little while on the purchase, as several people here had bad experiences with PowerLogix, but I Googled around and found that recently, reviews have been rising. Not perfect yet, but a reasonable gamble, I thought.
I won't buy new RAM or a HD for it until I'm sure the new CPU works, though. Those can arrive in days instead of weeks, and are almost guaranteed to work.
Anyway, the Pismo could handle 4 hours of Internetting or a full DVD without dimming the screen while on battery. Now, I'm lucky to get two hours of normal use. This might be because the battery is getting old and less able to keep charge, or something else is getting old and taking more power. Whatever. The 900 MHz G3 will certainly take more juice than my 400, so I'll get a new battery.
There seem to be several companies offerring brand-new Li-ion batteries for the Pismo (I've already got a used one, don't offer me another, you silly e-commerce sites!). NewerTech offers one, and I can find several vendors offerring BTI batteries. There are also some old (?) Apple ones to be found, which are probably still good, having had no use. Has anyone had experience with the BTI or NewerTech batteries? I jsut need to know before September.

Hey.
Good luck with the CPU upgrade, hope you like it. It certainly seems like an excellent deal.
I would offer battery advice, but my Pismo still yields a good 3+ hours on battery, so I havent had to buy a new one yet.

I've had good luck with Pismo batteries made by Battery Technologies Inc. (BTI). I haven't tried any of the NewerTech ones. They have a higher rating than the stock Apple batteries and provide a very long run time. They're pretty expensive, but even used Pismo batteries go for a lot.

No need! If you boot into Open Firmware and reset the NVRAM, the battery starts accepting a much larger charge. I don't know why this is, but it's working on my recently-upgraded Pismo. I'm not sure what else this command does, but it works for refreshing an old battery.
Startup and immediately press Cmd-Opt-O-F
type "reset-nvram"
type "reset-all"
I also reset my PRAM before and after this, just as a general optimization, and made sure I had the latest firmware.
