This was mentioned as an aside in a previous posting but got little response.
Has anyone else had a hard time using a PC card? I have to reboot in order to use mine and then shut down before ejecting.
I thought that you should be able to use them on the fly.

I have a compact flash PC card adapter... works on the fly, no problems.

My guess is that it's the card, try a normal brand if it already isn't.

i had used a CF PC card once, worked fine at first, then it wouldn't show up without a restart... doesn't worry me.. i never use them anyway.. it wasn't my Pc card.

What kinda CF PCMIA adaptor are you running? I'm looking for one that won't give me any troubles

I tried a SanDisk CF>PCMCIA adapter that caused a hard crash about a third of the time, but since switching to Kingston/Lexar ones, I haven't had a problem.

I, like many people, have been having severe problems with PC Card memory card readers under 10.2.x. (I think the problems started with 10.2.3 or 10.2.4, and have yet to be fixed.)

Under OS 9, it works fine, but obviously on a 17" that's not an option.

I'm using an IBM CF to PCMCIA card adapter that I bought from ebay. I figured for the extra few bucks I might as well get brand name.

Using Kingston compact flash card.
