Is anyone running Microsoft Publisher on Virtual PC? I am thinking about getting it - but don't want to shell out the $300 if it goes too slow. I use Publisher for brochures for real estate agents, and don't know how to use InDesign/Quark.
Thanks...

Look, don't take this the wrong way, but that's idiotic to the tilt.
It takes a few more bills to acquire but nary more brain cells to learn Indesign well enough to do brochures and the like. Look, if a dimwitted robot like myself can learn, you can, too. Hell, the fact that Indesign will run natively is alone worth the few extras, never mind the fact that Indesign is, um, more flexible and powerful. Or has MS actually made it a contender in the category?

Publisher is very easy to use, and has built in templates that InDesign doesn't have. Also, I already have about 30 brochures saved in Publisher that I periodically update and revise. Unless there is a way to open those in InDesign, I would have to re-do 30 brochures. Also - I don't think there is much price difference between VPC and InDesign, b/c I can get it with a student discount.
I am still interested to hear from someone who uses Publisher with VPC.

I've used Publisher under VPC before.

I use it for several older brochures that I have that I'm too lazy to convert to InDesign, It's not blazingly fast, but it works well enough. BTW, get the VPC6 with Win2000, it's much quicker than XP and you don't need all the extra multimedia/OS crap anyway.

Thanks MGrundy and MacNStein for your feedback... I think I might just get VPC 2000 and hope that works for Publisher. Does anyone know a good book/internet site with tutorials on InDesign?

I second, (or is that third?) the Windows 2000 advice... much better than XP, however, as already noted, VPC is not ideal at all foor any serious work.
Having used MS Publisher a fair bit, if there was any way you could get a copy of InDesign, you would never look back. I know you would have to redesign some brochures, but it really is vastly superior, and I'm sure well worth the hassle in the long term...

Placid - what features of InDesign do you like better?
