Hi, I've been having problems with dns lookups not happening on my powerbook. I can ping the dns server fine, but a lot of web pages tell me server not found, and a minute to two later are fine.
I think that it's to do with my wireless setup, as my pc on the network (hardwired) seems to work fine.
I'd like to try using a dns server that isn't at my isp just to check. Can anyone suggest a couple of reliable servers I can put into the network preferences instead to allow me to test whether it's the servers at my isp that are crap.
Also, shouldn't there be a file of recently used ip's on the mac that it references before trying a lookup. How can I check for this.
Cheers,
J.
Yes I know that this is a networking question, but I haven't had any replies on that forum yet, and want to try and test this soonest.

They're not public per se, but they are huge and open, and I used one successfully when my ISP was having DNS problems.

I used to work at Earthlink.... their DNS servers are "public" in the sense that any personal user can use them (even off their network).
207.69.188.185
207.69.188.186
I still use them, and Earthlink isn't even my ISP anymore (they suck ass in the DSL department in metro Atlanta... ironic since Mindspring started here and used to be the ****)... I have trouble remembering the Bellsouth ones.
