HELP!
I have a G4 TiPB (550) with 512 MB Ram... airport card, other than that's it's the stock PB, with Jag installed.

After taking it to FL and watching DVD's in the car with my kids my wife couldn't get it to wake from sleep. Then it took a day and a half to get it to boot. Now, it's booted once since then and ran for about an hour befor it had a kernal panic... I I've gotten the start up chime twice, but it locks on the grey screen apple logo with the spinning thingy, for lack of a better term.now I get nothing, no start up chime, just the sound of the HD coming on, and then it just sits. It stays one, I'm assuming, since it's getting hot, but it is not starting up.

please help???!!!!

Chuck, have you tried to start it up from the system CD that came with it?

Insert CD, press 'c' on the keyboard and start up the PB. Keep your finger on the 'c' key until you are sure it's using the CD's system. Which OS are you running?

I'm on the road, so I don't have the CD with me, but here is what I have figured out so far.

I cannot consistently get a start up "bong", but I don't think that is reliant on the ROM any more. some time when I hit the start button and then strike the side of the machine (after hours of frustration) I get the start up sound, but the screen may or may not come on... if it does come on, it either never gets to the spinning circle or locks shortly thereafter.

Now, with rare exception, I don't here the hard drive spinning. I may get the bong or may not, but either way I hear the machine power on, but the drive never spins... except when get the grey screen, but I haven't seen that in a couple of days.

IT sounds like a hardware problem, either lose connection or bad HD... any thoughts from those of you who have had more hardware experience than myself?

thanks,
Charlie
