Hi all:

I'm writing this from my 17" iMac, which I'm very happy with.

I'm starting school in the fall, and my writing is _terrible_. Obviously, I can't bring the iMac to class to write on, so I'm thinking of the iBook (as I'm a student, money is a big factor).

My question: I know they're (Apple) always comin' out with new things every few months, so should I wait until they come out with something new and the price of the low end (12") iBook drops, or do you think they'll just stop selling it? Should I buy now or wait for a possible discount?

Also, are y'all happy with your iBooks? Are dead pixels ever an issue? Where is the cheapest place to buy one? Opinions? Stories? Issues? Please let me know!

I bought mine from Amazon. It arrived in 3 days and absolutely no dead pixels. My other Apple laptop didn't have any dead pixels either.

you'll love it. You could always wait until the next big thing, I would suggest that you wait to buy until you absolutely have to ... maybe 2 weeks before you leave for school? that way you don't miss out on any updates, but I really don't think 100-200 Mhz will make a big difference in performance.

Bought mine from Mac Warehouse....at 10:45 on Wednesday night (Ohio) and it arrived in North Carolina Friday (today) at 1:15.

I love this thing so far. There are so many improvements over the older iBooks, even over the slightly older icebooks...

If you ordered an iBook, the good thing would be that you could max it out a bit more.

Just my two cents.

Hey dude, I'm in the same boat but I Just decided to get a 14'' iBook, 60gb hard drive and 640mb of ram, not to mention airport. It's costing me all I've saved up for working all summer but I'm so looking forward to it it doesnt even bother me anymore.
I spent months debating between the iBook and the Powebook, and as I see it, i'm getting the top of the line iBook, instead the bottom of the line powerbook. ~Matt~
