In all seriousness, a very long while. I'd guess 12 months from now at the *earliest*. Apple already made a public remark that G5's wouldn't hit laptopland for some while, and that speaks good measure.

well some people don't like the looks of the Ti compare to a allu powerbook. And the Ti doesn't have the goodies that the other to powerbooks have. And those are mine reason for not getting one now.
I really really really need the 802.11G wireless cause i use it a lot. And you don't wanna be transfering 10 gig over 802.11b

Wow, I am surprised by the remarkable lack of flamage! I looked at the title of the thread, looked art recent precedent, and feared the worst... I am pleasantly surprised.
More seriously, as for time, I think AssassyN is right. 12 months at the earliest...
Also, Hotsoup, there is nothing wrong in my opinion with the Ti... Yes no AE and BT, but it is a very, very decent machine.
Peace,
Marc

Thanks for the info but wow, are you serious about the newb flaming? i've never ran into a Mac forum that flames newbs. Only PC forums to be honest...
djjava: Well sense the G5 just came out, I can't see there being an "endless pit of topic". But I did do a search and, ironically, when I did a search for "powerbook g5" I got this error:
The search term you specified (g5) is under the minimum word length (3) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.
If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific.

Hotsoup by the time a Powerbook is being launched your soup will be very cold when served at current.
You need at least to think 12 to 14 months from now.

Does anyone know when the Rev B G5 PBs are coming out? I'd like to know so I can not non-buy one when they are about to be semi-possibly eventu-updated.

Nothing to do with flaming newbies thankfully... the board is usually really welcoming! It was just that if you had looked at this board a few weeks ago, it was like every other thread was a PowerBook G5 prediction thread!
We had them all, ranging from 'insider info', I have seen them, I made them... you name it! It nearly drove everyone to distraction, and pretty much all of them were subsequently 'lockinated'...
As for the welcoming aspect of NN, hmmm, it has been strange how people have reacted to the Spymac influx, as we are always really open and welcoming. I think it may have been the tone of the first poster that rubbed a few people in the lounge the wrong way... And also you may have a bit of residual 'vicarious animosity' about the whole 'iWalk' debacle...
However the mods are very clear, as are 99% of users, in the fact that everyone's welcome! I would just recommend pulling up a chair, grabbing a beer and riding through the initial teething issues... When things settle down, NN can be a cool place to be...
Peace,
Marc

Who cares!! The G5 Powerbook will come out when Apple decides to release it. We're a long way off most likely... relax and go buy yourself a Ti/Ai Powerbook. Or else be prepared to wait quite a while.

Here's a simpler way of looking at it:
The current incarnation of the G5 takes 9 fans to cool it, respectively. Until Apple can figure out a way to stuff another 9 fans into a laptop size case (or something that can equal that), I wouldn't count on seeing one anytime soon.

Forget the G5...when will the G6 be here?
These speculation threads are pathetic, sorry to say.

Well, besides the extremely cheesy screename joke, thanks
Thanks all that pitched in, I know have an idea. I'm thinking of grabbing a cheaper iBook to hold me over till then. Makes sense, because I really don't *need* it right now.
Thanks again!

WRONG! it takes 9 fans to cool the whole system including HDD, optical and Power supply. Just 2 ~ 4 to cool the CPU.

everyone thinks this... but the 9 fans are there to cool it while also keeping the fan rpms down so it remains wisper quite
if apple is willing to sacrifice sound volume, then apple will not have that much trouble cooling a underclocked g5

What kind of work are you doing where an iBook can hold you over but you need to also later go to the other extreme of a G5?

It'll be about the same time as Lucifer gets frostbite on his nads.
Really though, probably about 12-18 months.
