i am considering selling my setup i have now and looking into the latest iBook revs. more specifically the 12.1" 900 model. i would be maxing out the ram and adding a 60 gig HD but is it worth it to go for the ibook now or should i just jump to a 12" Powerbook? I would be getting all the saving from the edu discount so the price is a couple hundred difference (big deal for college student) so basically im wondering can the ibook even still hold its own in this G5 world?
Uses are basic + some video editing (maybe even springing for final cut express for an extra 99)
Ask yourself if you'd HONESTLY be using a laptop for video work. if the answer is 'no' then get the ibook. I love mine. But I know it's limitations and heavy video (ie, FCexpress) is pretty much one of them. You can do it, but it's a challenge is patience.
But for absolutely everything else, the ibook is a dream.
It works fine on mine (iBook 800 MHz/384 MB RAM/30 GB HD/Combo/12.1)....I absolutely love this machine, I've owned a 300 MHz iBook, 500 MHz PB G4, and this iBook, and it is the best Mac I have ever owned.
