I am curious, does anyone know if 1 Gig RAM for PowerBooks will become reality anytime soon?

Yeah, for the price you're better of getting 512x2 RAM & saving the cash...the benefits of 2GB of RAM just aren't worth that pricetag.

I've found it for $510 through distribution, you have to buy 5 or more, but that's still ridiculous. I'm waiting until it hits $300 or less.

I am so tempted to get 1GB of ram... but can the PB really benefit from it?

I heard of Bottleneck problems is that true?

the cost is a big turn off but if it really helps with my huge art files I can find the cash.

i will tell you this much, there will not be a 700$ increase in performance... i have 1 gig of ram on my desktop.. (windows xp pro) and i have 320megs on my wall street.. And both are just fine, the ram for the desk top was way cheep, so i got it.. But honestly after 500megs, i didn’t notices much diff at all... and that’s running winblows on it.. which uses a LOT more ram, a LOT more inefficiently than OS X, so i think you should listen to the others, wait until the ram is like 200-300$ then get it... if i was in your position, i would NOT spend 700$ to get an extra 500megs...

how large are your image files?... do get over 100meg? if they don’t, i wouldn’t bother... now, if your dealing with say 200meg image files it "might" be worth it.. but then again, when your working on your images, you probably don’t have many other programs running do you?...

I have 1 GB of RAM in my PB 17. I know it's pricey, esp. if you buy it from Apple, but it's worth it when you're editing video and mastering DVDs.

I still only have 256mb on my 867MHz, will I see a noticable difference w/ 768mb?

I did it, and honestly...even when I am doing a video project, the difference is hard to discern from the 512MB it came with.

But with that said, there is a huge difference up to and before reaching at least 512MB in my opinion.
