Has anyone ever seen a slanted/crooked display on a PowerBook?

My brand new PB's display seems to be ever so slightly slanted to one side, almost as if the image were rotated slightly clockwise. And I do mean slightly - but it is noticeable to me if I look closely. I'm referring to the displayed image, not the physical enclosure.

Just wondering if this is considered within the range of "normal" or if I should be looking at contacting Apple already...?

Contact Apple. Could it be that the actual screen (not the enclosure holding it) is slightly twisted?

Oddly enough, that sounds like raster shift or degauss issue which shouldn't happen on a Powerbook. Did you go into System Prefs and try to fix it? Try to adjust it before you do anything.

Otherwise call Apple. That's definitely not normal.

More GREAT quality control, Steve-O! Oh, I forgot -- you got rid of quality control...sorry!

It's so barely noticeable that I wonder if it's just some kind of optical illusion. Haha. But you know, when you drive 4 hours round-trip and spend $1,800 on something, you look for perfection.

What would I look for in Sys Prefs to adjust? I was under the impression that degaussing was only needed on CRT monitors?

I'm going to take the PB over a friend's house later and see if they can notice the problem too, or if it's just my eyes. We're talking maybe 2-3 pixels higher max. on the left side.

It's very very strange, yes.

Do you live near an Apple Store to take it in and have them look it over?

Yes, a $2000 notebook shouldn't be tilted one way or another.

The closest Apple Store at the moment is in Arlington (where I bought it last night) or Tyson's Corner. Unfortunately, that's about 90 minutes away with heavy traffic usually (gotta love Northern Virginia/DC).

An Apple Store is opening here on September 4th, which is a little over a month away but the "defect" isn't distracting while I'm using the computer so I guess I can wait...

What are you talking about? Apple has, in comparison to other PC manufacturers, excellent quality control.
Your posts are getting more and more negative when there is absolutely no need for it. Are you sure you haven't got a personal agenda? Or are you getting paid for this?

My friend's iMac (iLamp) screen is very visibly tilted. Crooked like your grandmother noticing it at a glance. He lives with it, I would have had a fit until fixed.

Another friend just got an eMac brand new. Screen is so tilted AND with such poorly aligned geometry I couldn't believe what I was seeing. He's going to live with that rather than hassle of shipping it for repair.

Seems getting units out the door is rule #1 lately.

Still love Apple. But rabid evangilist? Can't be one for your friends anymore. They need to advised to approach purchasing with the same caution and skepticism usually reserved for lessor brands. That's sad.
