OK, I've got a strange issue with my iBook (800 mHz combo) that I can't seem to nail down. When I first purchased the iBook (refurbed) the display would only light up at "Welcome to Mac OS X" and then dim. The computer would sleep, and would not responsd to the built-in keyboard or trackpad, although a USB mouse and keyboard worked fine. An external monitor would show an image, although the LCD showed black. Even with the USB mouse and keyboard, the iBook would constantly go in and out of sleep. I reinstalled OS X, zapped the PRAM, reset the NVRAM and power management, let the iBook sit, unplugged with battery out, for several minutes, and still nothing. However, when I booted it without the battery and let it sleep, shut down and put the battery in, it worked fine. This has happened a couple of times now, and I have no idea what's causing it to happen. It seems to show up totally randomly. I've checked error logs to no avail. Also, this happened with only the stick 128 RAM and no add-ons (Airport card, etc). Most of the time the iBook works great, goes in and out of sleep without a hitch, boots up when it should, no complaints. I'm tempted to think it's somehow software related, since when I boot into open firmware I can use the LCD, keyboard and trackpad normally. Anyone have the slightest clue as to what'
s causing this and how to prevent it????
I wanna see movies of my dreams.

Sorry to say that this could possibly be a problem with the sleep switch or something else hardware related. I don't think I'd ever by a refurb. You just never know what might have happened to them. Take it to an Apple Store and see what the Genius says.
