I am have trouble getting a correct image out of my iBook into my DLP video projector.

I am using the VGA input on the pj; its native resolution is 1280 x 720.

I have a 700 mhz 12" iBook. Here's what happens when plugging the vga cord from the pj into the dongle of the iBook:

the iBook's screen resolution automatically changes to 800 x 600, the output to the projector is nearly non-existant. then when is switch to 1024 x 768, i can see a little more from the pj, but it is still totally out of whack (sync..whatever).

the auto-detect button doesn't seem to do anything.

any help?

btw, i tried the pj with an ibm thinkpad and it works fine.

I've had a problem with a projector before. What happened was the iBook would "know" that something was connected to it as multiple resolution options would appear on the Displays Preferences.

But the projector output would always be a blue screen with "no signal" -- no matter what resolution I selected.

The problem was the VGA cable. I reversed it, and the problem went away. I've used the same projector 2-3 times since, and that problem has surfaced occasionally, and reversing the cable always solves it. I don't think it has happened to other people.

This is on a iBook 800.

I bought a iBook dongle that allows S-Video/Video RCA output just so that I have backup plan if/when this happens again.

Sounds silly, but try this: Sleep the iBook. Connect the projector, wait a minute before waking it. This has become common practice around my workplace. Failures and odd resolutions went away.

I'm going to pull your head off because I don't like your head.

will try the sleep method. i already tried power off / boot up.

i can't really reverse my cable because it was snaked through the way. but VGA cable is not uni-directional is it?
