I have a 1ghz Ti, which I bought to replace my old-school 466 clamshell ibook (big jump, indeed). I know there are claims of getting some later ibooks to span TO another monitor, but I was wondering if there's any way I can use my old ibook as an extra monitor for my powerbook?

I know it's a long shot, but I use final cut, and I'd love to have a (free) extra monitor for my bins...

Thanks!

Not that I know of. The best you might be able to do (using the old iBook) is get a video digitizer and use RCA/S-Video input, but that will likely make the text on the FCP palettes unreadable and would likely cost more than a cheap display. You can get CRT monitors for super cheap these days, and LCDs aren't horrendous these days either. An extra display would really be the most hassle free/reliable option.

There might be some way to extract the iBook display and hack some sort of DVI/VGA interface on it, but I'd guess that'll require some soldering and either custom or semi-expensive ICs to get the display to work with what your new laptop will output.

from a (very) quick eBay search, it looks like you could still get between $500 and $800 for the iBook on there... plenty for a very nice CRT or good 17" LCD
