Okay I got a Powerbook 17inch and a Centrino PC with bluetooth (Acer Travelmate 800) as well.

1. Is it possible to let these two computers 'communicate' (read: transfer files) between each other using Bluetooth?;
2. What are the options other than Airport Extreme base station in regard to wireless routers working with both these portables?

In advance thanks for your input.

Yes, it is possible. It is really slow though (less than 700Kb/sec) so if you have another way of doing it I would recommend it.

You can create a network with your Airport Extreme card. The PC may join it and you should be able to share files that way. You can also have the mac share a hard-wired internet connection with the PC.

I haven't tried this with my 12" but it worked with a 12.1" iBook and a low-end Compaq laptop that a friend was using.

The ability to create a network can be found under the AirPort menu (in the menu bar). You can share an internet connection under the Internet tab in the Sharing preference panel.
