Hi, I'm going to buy a new internal hard drive for my Powerbook G4 soon. I was wondering how I could transfer some data from my old hard drive so that my iTunes and iPhoto data are transfered exactly the same? I'd like to keep all the same playlists, photo albums and if possible, even the play counts and ratings of the songs.

Hi Seongoh,

The most efficient way is when you buy a new hard drive to also buy an external firewire enclosure. (maybe 50 to 75 bucks)

You will also need this excellent utility:

First install the new hard drive in the firewire case. Then use carbon copy cloner to make an exact duplicate of your internal hard drive on your new hard drive.

Then remove the old hard drive and swap for the new hard drive. Reinstall the old hard drive in the firewire case so you have an extra hard drive for backing up etc.

If you dont want to go through all of this, take the new hard drive to your local apple store, and they will likely do it for you--but you will have to pay for the service.
