Hi,
I just started getting this crazy startup problem on my 1Ghz Powerbook which I've had for a few months. Everything seems to be working fine on startup, first the grey screen with the gray apple, then the blue os x start up screen, but after that it goes to my desktop picture, the mouse pops up, then thats it. It will stay like that for a few seconds, then flash back to a blue screen. It will stay on the blue screen for a few seconds then back to my startup screen, then cycle through this indefinitly. I've tried everything to fix this. I've flashed the PRAM, tried the reset button under the keyboard, booted from OSX cd and ran disk utility, tried a safe boot, everything, and nothing has worked. I'm running 10.2.6 on a few month old 1Ghz PB, 512mb Ram, Superdrive. Any help you could give me would be appreciated. Thanks,
sli

Did you try to repair permissions? That might be an issue. Also, it might be a corrupted preference, so try removing your preference folder to a safe place outside of ~/User/yourname/library, then if things boot normally, slowly add prefrences back until you find the guilty party.

I tried repairing both the permissions and the disk, neither of which seemed to work. I'll try moving my prefrences folder, hopefully that will work. Thanks for the quick reply.

Thanks again for the help, I moved those and that seemed to do the trick. When I put them all back the problem started up again, so I am sure it is definitly something wrong with the prefrences. Now I have the pain staking process of trying to find the culprit out of all my prefrences. Anyone have any ideas on a quick way to go about this. Thanks again,
sli
