I am looking to get a new internal HD for a TiBook 800. I need at least 80GB - I assume that 80GB is the largest drive currently available for a TiBook? Is there anything bigger currently on the market?

What brands are best?

MacBook Air 11" 1.6Ghz 4GB 128GB Backlit Keyboard, 4S, iPad 2

OWC is still a 60GB for only $225. That's a pretty good price.

if you don't absolutely need to upgrade the internal drive, you can get much more space and better performance out of a 3.5" desktop drive in an external enclosure. granted, these are bigger and require external power sources, but if you plan to do video editing or something that requires lots of space, this is probably your best bet. (especially since most people will tell you that having the application and video on separate hard drives is advantageous). if you do this, your best bet is to buy an empty firewire enclosure ($50-$60) and then buy a separate drive to put in it, as this usually costs a lot less than the external hard drives sold by Western Digital, Maxtor, etc.. for less than the cost of an 80GB laptop drive to put in your TiBook, you can get an external enclosure and a 200GB desktop drive from Western Digital or Maxtor.

If you want an 80GB internal drive, there really is only one choice... the IBM/Hitachi 5K80 looks llike a solid choice. If you're on a tighter budget, the IBM 80GN is a good drive as well, though not as fast. I have the 80GN in my 12" PB and it's been a great drive. It's very quiet, and quite a bit faster than the 40GB Fujitsu that was originally in my Powerbook.

Hi,

Here's a good link with tests of the popular large capacity laptop drives:

Best wishes,
