I just bought a 15" Ti Powerbook about two weeks ago and finally used the cd burner to burn a CDR yesterday for the first time.
The specs on Apple's site say that its rated at only 8X however I was able to select 24X as the maximum speed.
Anyone else noticed this? Did they stick a faster drive in and forget to update the specs?
MacBook Pro: 13"/2.26Ghz/4GB/500GB/SuperDrive (Mine)
MacBook Pro: 13"/2.26Ghz/2GB/160GB/SuperDrive (Wife's)

The drive is still 8x. Just because you were able to select 24x in whatever software you were using does not mean it was actually burning at 8x.

Buster: Oh, yeah yeah, those guys did a pretty good job.

Yeah, mine too (Ti 867, received this June 25). I was a bit puzzled at first, but figured out the "A" of 8121A in the model name, with the BB21 firmware made all the difference.

Isn't it nice?

I remember looking forward to DVD buring on the road -
But It takes about 3hours at 1x speed to burn 4.7GB.

Very cool technology - laughably slow in reality.

_3_ hours!?!?! You're doing something very, VERY wrong then.

A 4.7Gb DVD-R burning at 1x should, by definition, take approximately 1 hour to burn. If it takes longer you have it set to verify (an extra hour) and I can't really account for the entire other hour.

I've burned serveral 4.3-4.7Gb discs, and the LONGEST burn I've had was like, 1 hour 15 minutes (including lead in/out tracks).

BB21 firmware?

My 1Ghz Ti was D0C4... BB21 would be a serious downgrade (at least in model number)... am I wrong?

If not, we need to get cynikal over here and see if he can rip the firmware out of these beasts... 16x is nice but 24x would be kind swank.

Cheers juanpacolopez for the heads up on burn speeds -
I'm 'doing something wrong' then - burn time on Ti-1GHz - 2Hrs 34mins.

Perhaps it's nothing you're doing and entirely the hardware....

However...

If it's 2 hours 34 minutes... That would be 1:17 each for a verify and burn, which is within the realm of "normal".

I would suggest turning off verify (I always have) as it saves a huge amount of time and I have yet to find a good use for it.

You know... it's the little things, the DETAILS that matter.

I've GOT to start paying more attention
