The answer now is a possible yes. A firmware has been found for the update. Thing is that not many have tried it yet. Do ya feel lucky punks? WELL DO YA'???

Looks good enough for me. I am at least downloading the firmware before the Apple FBI yanks it...this could be the greatest thing since sliced bread for my 17". Can't let this one pass.

Of course it will no doubt void my warranty...something to consider. Guess I'd better ask myself; do I feel lucky?

Nevertheless I distinctly remember Apple posting the 17" could burn DVD-R at 2X and later they yanked that spec. I know some of you out there remember this also.

Glad it worked for you guys. In case you were wondering, I've came up with a way to allow the original installer to run on the updated drive, so that you can actually put your firmware back to what it was (if you have a 12"/15" powerbook, on a 17" it'll really be a downgrade).
