After school yesterday, I went straight down to my local CompUSA and picked up my iBook. I was kinda nervous because it would be my biggest purchase to date. But I went there, and picked up a 14 inch iBook. Its is soooo amazing. It is really cool. I love it. I was up all night last night just playing around with it. It looks soo good. And it really is soo practical to have.

The only sad thing about getting it: CompUSA was giving away free 128MB memory for any purchase of an iBook so i got one. However, the one i got is 256MB and that is split into the built in and the other, which means that there is really no use for the free on that i got since it would be the same thing if i got it in there..

But anyways, this thing is amazing. Im using it right now. Just wanted to share my joy. Later

Enjoy the laptop. I know I enjoyed mine; but sold it only cause I never used the portability factor of it; and I didn't need it as much as I thought, so it was a waste to have it sit there and lose value.

But - you'll enjoy it. Post pics if you can.

Congatulations. Every mac is fun to use.

Sorry to lay this out again, but: Why the 14"? You said, you bought it after school, so I assume your eyes are still in good condition. It's heavier, it's more expensive and - IMHO - not as nice as the 12". Don't get this as flaming, I'm really interested why you preffer the big thing.

The question I'd like to ask is: Why is this forum so against the 14" iBook? Let people have their personal preference.

designfreak114: Congrats. I am glad to hear your enjoyment of your investment. My iBook is starting to grow old, but it's still paying back in value and I use it all the time.

Yeah, I know most people gripe about the 14"...but I'm a graphic design student whose always in different places. The 12" would definitely have been cool but I'm always in different places where an external monitor would probably not always be available. So I went with the larger one, because my eyes get tired after extended screen staring. My desktop has a 13 inch screen and after using it a while my guys just hurt so I kinda knew that the 12 inch would probably not have been to kind to my eyes.

And really, the 14 inch isnt so bad. It is actually kinda neat. Though the 12 inch would have been great, it would have been bad for my eyes because I do so many long projects...sometimes very complicated projects, and the small screen might wreak havoc on my eyes. I didnt wanna have bad eyesight by the time i had reached like age 25 or something. I mean really...I mean really, I have 20/20 vision, but I wouldnt wanna push it. I know my eyes well enought to know that it gets tired very quickly while doing photoshop.

But yeah, thank you guys for all your input (if you posted any) on my other post. Your opinions really did help me make a decision....A great decision at that.

I would never knock the 14" ibook. I almost go one for myself. I can completely see people in there later years with lesser vision getting the 14" and I'm glad it's there for that purpose.

had I not seen th portability of the 12" in person I would have gone 14" in size. But I'm young, I travel alot, so the smaller ibook won out.

I just got the 14'' ibook, have perfect vision, and love it anyways, I don't why people try to insult everyone by making it seem like you have to be old to use it, I just want a bigger screen and I feel it's just as portable as the 12''. I mean it's not like the bag you got for it couldn't hold it. *just a generilization*

but you're still carrying around the same sized bag so it really makes no difference, at least in my mind.

I don't think you could get nearsightness (mytopia) after 20 or so.

But congrats on your iBook, I picked up a 12" earlier in the year and I love the sturdiness of it over my Powerbook.

Simply because it has the same resolution as the 12" iBook.

Disagreed; I find it unwieldly, and it feels like it was just thrown together.

I find the 12" much more comfortable.

I use my dual G4 for all my serious stuff, and a 12" iBook for all my school work. Its the perfect size for taking notes, and squeezing into small carrels. Slow, but other than that its perfect for a college student. Actually a 12" G4 is perfect, but the 12" iBook ain't bad.

256 megs of RAM is the absolute minimum for OS X.

Trade in those two 128s for a 512. You won't regret it.

I agree, you won't regret it if you put more memory. Sell your RAM on ebay you will get some money to help you buy more memory...

Congratulations. Enjoy your new Ibook and squeeze every byte out of it!

I bought mine this past march, and just this week I finally decided sell my PC laptop and use my Ibook full time at the office. It took me 7 months to decide to use it, after covering everything I needed it.
