I always thought that long shut downs was an OSX thing but a few days before when my sister brought my old imac back I discovered that shutting down on that machine took 2-4 seconds. On my powerbook 667DVI it takes 20-25 seconds!!!! I don't think that the different rpm of the hard disk (5400rpm on imac vs 4200 on the powerbook) would have such a great impact. So what are your shut down times?

I don't know, I am guessing in between 5 to 10 seconds.

It really depends. Sometimes it takes the 2-4 seconds you mentioned. Other times, it seems to take 10, 15 or more. Bizarre.

It depends on how many processes are running and what they are doing.

I routinely close all the programs my self before shutting down. So if you exclude the wacom tablet the hp and scanwise drivers that are running all the time and you might not have it I don't see anything different than your X os to really see this huge difference.

This is strange. It's not that it bothers me that much but if there was a way to improve shut down time I would really do it.

Can everybody please post their shut down times just to see the differences?
Thanks
