Call me crazy but that just makes me not want to buy an iBook because the pic makes it look like a kids toy. I know I know...bang my head against the wall for thinking such thing

The picture is located somewhere in the Edu. discount page.

Yeah, I saw that pic. Very bad pic, I agree. But that didn't stop me from buying a iBook. I decided that the iBook is exactly what I need, without the much-talked-about problems of the PowerBook 12". I currently love my iBook, and loving it even more with the 512 MB plugged in. If only I could fix that keyboard thing...

Well, if the picture is on the educational store, then it's targeted towards teachers, students, and parents of students. As such, it makes some sense.

I would agree though that Apple wouldn't want to use this image to advertise the iBook on its main site.

This is targeted advertisement. It highlights an advantage of Apple, products simple enough for kids and yet with hidden sophistication adults can use.

Through one of these school programs my 15 year old brother was given the same iBook I use (minus burn drive). I certanly did not think less of my iBook for it! I reject the argument that computers need to be "professional" looking (ie boring) and only understandable by IT techs for adults to consider buying them.

I think it's crappy they're using the computers outside.

The sun will make it so they really couldn't be seeing anything.. and shouldn't they be out playing soccer with the other kids and not futzing around with their nerdy laptops?

I went to see Radiohead play on Monday at the Tweeter center. Luckily, I was close enough to the stage to get a good view of most of the gear they were using. Among Jonny Greenwood's various toys (synths, etc.) was a 12" iBook. He used it during their first song, but I couldn't make out what program(s) he was running. It was great t see an iBook used in that context.

I think that's a good real world example of iBook use -- and it's not some silly Apple marketing concoction.

Call me crazy, but it makes me want an ibook... heck, its what made me so giddy about getting one!

I'm sure that's just the kid in me... I'm only 19, so I haven't boozed it out of me yet.

But it just makes the iBook seem like a fun "toy". In a way, I look at it like that. But its certainly not a cheap toy, and the inside is definitely as geeky as toys can get.

So I think of it as a "toy for geeks" with a "toy for kids" look.

Well, that explains it...

Kids love the iBook, don't tell me that's not a major selling point.
