I just picked up a spare almost new battery for my 15" TiBook on Ebay last night for about half the price of a brand new one. I got it because I'll be using my PB in class quite a bit this semester and won't really be near accessible power outlets. (And in one case, there aren't any.) Since I'll be needing almost continuous use on it, it would be an issue to have to turn off the PB to swap them so is it possible to hot swap the two batteries while the PB is asleep?

Yes. The 15" and 17" can do this, but the 12" and ibooks can't.

Still, I always put my 667 Rev. C to sleep when I swap the batteries. Paranoia is a blessed thing.

The Pismo Powerbooks are blessed in this regard - I can hotswap batteries out of the two bays as long as there some soure of power to the computer.

Actually, you can hotswap batteries in the 12" PowerBook, but you must have AC power connected when you do it.

Grr...this is irritating. I was in the middle of watching "Signs" on DVD awhile back, got the very last chapter and tried to hotswap batteries, and I soon found out it's impossible w/ the 12" PB.

I forgot the name and maker, but there is a small dongle that you can plug in to the ibook or Pb and run on 2 aa batteries while you change your main battery.

2 AA batteries? It wouldn't run long.

More like this:

Mmmm battery

It wouldn't need to run very long, just long enough to swap the battery while the computer is asleep. I'd like to see such a dongle, which would be stowable in the pocket of a notebook sleeve; the product you reference definitely doesn't qualify.
