I mistakenly pulled something heavy onto my 17 in PB and have a dent adjacent to the keyboard. Luckily, there was no damage to the display. A replacement panel is on order. Has anyone opened up the 17 in PB? Any suggestions as to how hard this repair might be? MacHeaven will sell the part but not provide any suggestions on what is involved.

Thanks in advance for suggestions.

Paul, that sounds pretty extensive. I would recommend to take the new panel and the computer to an Apple Authorized service center and have them install it. Of course there will be some cost involved but it should not be too much since you already have the part. The Powerbook 17" is way too expensive and a beautiful computer to try something like that by yourself if you have no experience.
"Guesstimation" only but you may have to pay anywhere from $80.00-$150.00 for professional install and it will be well worth it. No pun intended but DON'T HALF-ASS your expensive computer.
It will cost more to reverse mistakes.

I agree with the previous poster: take it to a professional. Why risk damaing a 3000+ machine for something liek this?
