My 15" PB has a rare case of "ageing Airport signal," the symptoms of which are decaying Airport signal strength over time, to the point of requiring an Ethernet cable (barf) to submit this post.

I've had the PB for a little over a year now, and could surf over Airport with no problems. But, with time, and with every incremental software update, it seems that the signal has become weaker and weaker, at first requiring me to sit ever closer to the base station. I am currently sitting a foot away from the base station and have no signal whatsoever (yes, it's on!).

Any similar experiences? Fixes?

Thanks.

Ouch...you wouldn't happen to have AppleCare on it, would you? If so, I'd give them a call and tell them just what you posted, and most likely you'd get a fix/replacement. The only alternative I can think of is to use a 3rd party USB or PCMCIA slot Wireless card.

I have a problem like this. Except my bars remain all full, but my connection "fades" away, it becomes slower and slower, then finally just stops.

I've just started using wireless, with a TiBook, and I'm getting brilliant reception - about 11 floors up in fact! Is there some sort of run down in efficiency over time?

Hi,

Ti-books are known for their poor airport reception, but if you get no reception at one foot, i bet your internal antenna is disconnected: check the connection at the card

Also there is a trick for readjusting the location of one of the airport antenna wires: you remove the battery and then press against the side wall--some have found dramatic improvement.

For details see this link: http://www.nother.net/jgeiger/tibook_airport.html

Thanks to all for your relies.

After further testing (with another WiFi network) it is evident that the problem is not with the TiBook but with the Base Station, as I've been able to access this alternative network without a hitch.

Any input on testing/fixing the Base Station?

Thanks again.
