No new 15 inch PowerBook until September 27
Why do I say this??? Because Apple has a $300 rebate on the education site for a PowerBook or iBook ordered with an iPod and an HP printer that expires on September 27. I doubt that they would want to apply the rebate to a new, upgraded model of the PowerBook or iBook. So, I conclude that new models will only be available for order after that date.
If I order a current 15 inch 1GHz Ti PowerBook today they offer 3-5 day delivery. So, the old models are still available.

I agree. I mentioned this last week in another thread. The end of promos like that are almost always keyed to new announcements.
But think how sweet it would be to get the new one and a new ipod for $69!!!

I read somewhere that the Sept 27th was the end of the quarter Which would be the reason the rebates end on that day (hopefully unrelated if this means new pb before then

that's fine with me I guess. I don't plan to get a laptop until the end of the year and a dual processor laptop would be icing on the cake. Dunno about you people but I think the extra month would be WELL worth the wait.
I like my dual 800. Fast machine. If I could get a dual ghz laptop.. I'd be DROOOLING at the portable power :OMG:
That'd be so awesome, and the thought is almost totally inconcievable. With a high end mobile graphic set I could sit on the couch and play wolfenstein better then on my desktop O_O

Meh. People always try to tie new hardware to promo expirations, but I can think of several instances where Apple rolled out promos and then introduced new hardware -- especially back-to-school promos like the iPod deal. Both in 2001 and 2002 they announced rebate promos in advance of new hardware announcements at MWNY, running through September, and the rebates applied to discontinued and new equipment.

IMHO, I don't buy your logic. I doubt a corporation like Apple would coordinate hardware releases with rebate programs. Have you ever seen stats on how many rebates are actually redeemed? rather pathetic numbers..
These figures would be mere rounding errors at the end of the day for Apple.

Well Sept 27 is in line with the "deadline" when Motoslowa is suppose to have 7457s in production quantities, which is what Apple is waiting for. I'm betting they get them announced before the end of Sept so Apple can then milk more cash when Panther comes out in December. If they wait or can't deliver till mid or late Oct, many folks (including me) will wait for Panther to be included before purchasing.

I can wait, even though school really requires one... but I will lose a 25% discount (running till end of August) and two of my friends, who were ready to switch, will go for two beautiful Dell Latitude D600s.
