I have to reinstall my software... and when I do that I'll lose all my mp3.... I don't really have to back them up since I have the original CD's....

but i was wondering... I have all the songs on my Ipod...

- When I open ITunes for the first time, will it update my Ipod and thus erase my files?

- Can you play music off your iPod using iTunes?

- Which iPod freeware is best to get your music from your iPod to iTunes.

I found iPod Access which looks good for 10 bucks.

And since my ibook only holds 10GB and my iPod is 15GB, I was thinking I should be keeping my music only on my iPod since I don't have enough room.

Anybody do this? If I had a big harddrive it wouldn't be a big deal.

What you mentioned above is one way of doing it, however there is another that isn't too difficult, and will allow you to transfer all/or some of your mp3's after you format youur drive. Tinkertool allows you to view hidden files on your machine as we all know. Your ipod is the same thing. Your mp3's are in a hidden folder on the ipod. Here's the catch...They aren't all in the same folder. They are numbered and divided up somehow, regardless you can just navigate the folders in the finder and drag and drop what you want on the machine, and vise versa. AFAIK, there isn't a system as to how many songs, etc that each folder can hold....some of mine had 3 songs, some had 14 or more. Just make sure you choose to manually update your songs and lists or they will get wiped out.

-How pumped would you be driving home from work, knowing someplace in your house there's a monkey you're gonna battle?

i did this:
1. make itunes let you manually edit the ipod playlist and remove all the songs. so no songs on the ipod.

2. copy your itunes library over from finder

3. reinstall computer

4. copy the songs off the ipod to the computer

5. sync itunes with ipod
