But they said they had a waiting list of 1 1/2 weeks. I said no thank you. Then I went online to buy one. The estimated shipping was 5-7 business days. I was like,
I guess this is Apple's way of telling me "just wait a bit longer, you will be pleasantly surprised."

For one with a superdrive, the wait has been 7-10 days for the last week or two.
Fortunately, the Apple Store in Plano, TX, has plenty of both model... I picked up mine yesterday.

That or apple's way of saying "The 12 inch powerbook is a very popular model and we're having a hard time keeping a stock of models ready to ship out."
The thing has been one of the AppleStore's top selling items since... well, since it came out. And ship times have been fluctuating between 1-3 and 5-7 or more days for at least the past moth or two, so shipping times are an unreliable indicator of an imminent update.
I'm sure new 12" are in the pipeline - but no one has the slightest clue when they'll be here or what they'll have. That doesn't mean there's been any shortage of rumors, though. Most of those have same day shipping.

U of T just orders them for you from Apple. It's no faster ordering it online. P.S. I hope you got the educational price for your online order.

I called U of T today, and was told that (a) they just got a shipment in today, and (b) they do carry Powerbooks in stock, and not just as individual orders.

I also got my 12 inch PB from the U of T bookstore :-)
Be warned that strangers will come up to you and rudely
fondle your new Powerbook. Very annoying!
