Can someone suggest which powered speakers will work with the 12" powerbook?

Luckily you've got a wealth of choices...
I've got a PB 17" and I bought JBL Creatures for my setup. I've been very pleased with them. My music sounds great on them, and movies (I watch DVDs on my machine quite a bit) are perfect. The price ($100-$130) is also not so bad.

My only quible with them is in the mid-freq range. Most computer speakers are a little dicey in the mids. Woofers and Tweeters have been designed well for some time now. It's just hard to make sweet sounding mid-range speakers for an enclosure small enough for the computer based system.

JBL Invaders are good - if you use them in a larger room. Designed mainly for surround sound use, they may be too much for a small space.

I think the sound sticks sound a little thin. I wouldn't recommend them.

Logitech also has plenty of 3 and 5 speaker systems that will do the job just fine. Less cool factor, but you'll hear just as well. Pretty economical too.

Go to an Apple store if there's one near you and also hit a Best Buy or Staples near you, and keep testing until one sounds good to ya.

Good luck!

Actually, by powered, do you mean powered seperately or BY the PB.

If you just mean mains powered speakers, I use the Videologic Sirocco Spirits, which should cost about US$150 now. Two boring black boxes, I admit, but they sound good, have inputs for headphone outs from e.g. iPods, portable CD, and a line in. Also, it has an output for a seperate subwoofer, but the bass isn't too bad anyhow.
