Has anybody come across a good writeup on taking apart the dual usb iBook? I'm going to try and replace the reed switch because I'm having backlight issues.

This site has some good pictures of taking apart an iBook. It loads a bit on the slow side, though.

I guess the best instructions to do that come from the Eagle's nest itself...

You should download the PDF version Apple's service manual for the iBook. It might be a bit tough to get hold of it, though.. Apple doesen't want them floating around.

If you can't find a decent walkthrough, I can walk you through the steps. Lemme know if you need it.

Apple's docs show a tool they simply call a "black stick." In reality it's a glass filled non-conductive nylon stick. One end it pointed like a pencil. The other is flat like a screwdriver. It's a very handy tool especially for opening the iBook case.

Anyway, I found a source for some of these and bought a fairly large quantity. If you'd like to buy some I'll send them to you for $3 each plus $.50 shipping. Email me at chabig@mac.com if you're interested.
