Well I just recently purchased (last week) a new PowerBook 12" and I love it. I'm not a big fan of toting laptop cases around ( i use to have a large Sony and it was a nightmare going anywhere with it) so I am wondering how resiliant my powerbook is. I know I can't or shouldn't drop it, but if I were to put it in a little black sleeve and place it gently in my backpack would I be ok? Just wondering if anyone has some feedback on how they transport their powerbooks around.
Thanks!
Bill

It should be fine...
I carry around my TiBook in a Booq Powersleeve, and then inside a messenger bag all the time. No adverse effects at all...
A portable, although somewhat fragile would be next to no good, and defy its' reason d'etre' (sp?!) if it wasn't durable enough to carry around!
Peace,
Marc

What about putting a powerbook to sleep before carrying it around. Can any possible problems result?

I've been carrying my 12" around campus in sleep mode for the past week or so with no problems - nor would I expect any. The only difference between shutting down and sleeping is in the electronics of the PB, as far as any moving parts go there won't be a difference.
I wouldn't want to go running with the lid open and the power on though. That'd be a bad idea™.

Nope. That's what Sleep mode is for.

Yep, a neoprene sleeve here too, then into a back pack, sometimes in a plastic bag if its raining hard. I never shut mine down and its been ok for months, to and from work every day, as someone else said, there would be little point to a fragile lap top.
I don't plan on dropping it but its insured against damage or theft and all backed up to an external HD, so I guess I can drop it without worrying ;-)
