Hey I am going to get a 7200 RPM drive for my new 17' PB next week, are they fairly simple to install? and can some one point me to a online how to? I installed a new CDRW in my GFs ibook and it as really bad, way to many screws to deal with. I hope the PB isn't as bad.

I wrote a "how-to" a while back, but since then I have located a place you can get the actual Apple service manual for the 17" which will give you pictures & text to do it:

Good luck. Remember, go slow and make sure you have the proper tools. It's fairly easy if you've done this stuff before.

Hi there,

I just got a 7200 rpm and put it in my tibook.

Works awesome!!

I am under the impression that it is really hard and not recommeded on the 17's however. And not only that, it voids the warranty.

I want to get a new 17 but if I cant put this new drive in, I'll wait for the G5's to come out when therer will probably be a 80-100GB version of the drive anyway.

I'm bummed about this...can anyone shed a little light on it?

Anyone succesfully swap a drive in a 17 inch PBG4????
