Well just about several hours ago here in NY state I bought my 12 inch PB, and got it with EDU discount. Along with my almost free (15GB iPod). I have used macs for years and this is my first Apple Laptop, and first Laptop ever.

I got 640MB Ram
60GB HD
Combo Drive
No AirPort Card but I will add one in two years when I transfer from junior college to RIT.

So life is good.

How I made the decision between the 15 and 12. Hopefully this will help others out.

I made this choice for a very good reason. If I was too spend an extra, oh 800 bucks, on a 15 inch it would be a waste. Why, well because in time the entire PowerBook line will be updaated to the IBM G5 Processor. I thought well I get a free iPod, and I need portability and power for majoring in comp science. So this seemed to be a great deal. Money wasn't an issue because I got a good part time job, but I think I made a intelligent economic decision, and saved that money. That money can be used later to buy a G5 tower in 4 years. I spend 2200 dollars, and with rebate this ends up being 2000 dollars on the dot. I think I got this right it could of been lower. The only thing that has shipped so far is my applecare plan. I got at least a week until my PB 12 inch arrives, and the iPod hopefully will arrive sooner.

Thanks to all who helped me out with this hard decision. I could of waited longer for a rev b 12 but who cares the PB im getting is very powerful. The only thing the rev b may get that is major is a USB 2.0 card and a possible DVI out which isnt needed in my case. I will get a CRT for it possibly, but like I said 3-4 years a G5, or G6 will be on my doorstep possibly.

Congrats! I love my 12-in PB. I got mine 6 months ago -- sure wish I could have gotten the ipod deal, too!

You will really enjoy your new machine.

Okay I dont know if it's because I live in Canada or not but I havent heard or seen a thing about these discounted ipods. I REALLY want a PB12 and everything would be even better if I could get a nearly free ipod too! Can someone tell me how to go about getting this amazing deal?

Edit: Just found the offer at the university of Calgary. $450 rebate if I get a powerbook, ipod, and printer. $300 if it's just a powerbook and ipod.

Hmm, and now that there are 1 GB RAM chips for the TiBooks, the 640 MB issue on the 12"s is no longer an issue.

Congrats on your purchase! I too just bought my Powerbook (15") this week, and I'm still waiting on delivery! I'm pretty excited about it, as it is my first Apple computer!

Just a heads-up:

If there is any problem with the machine, call up the Apple Store immediately. They were extremely cool about a problem I had with mine (a "ripple" effect in the upper left-hand corner of the monitor every time I tapped the case - such as when typing) and offered a replacement immediately - I never even asked.

You are *so* going to love this machine.

At least, I do.

Apple is odd like that sometimes. If you call them the day you get your machine they seem to be more helpful than they are if you call them 89 days later (this has been my experience too) Congrats to all the new powerbook owners and Minty welcome to the forums. This place has a plethora or knowledge if you can get past the occasional rant.

Funny you bring this up. As I have said I am a long time experience mac user. Although I have only used desktops. My dad had and I inherited(): Apple II(I WISH WE STILL HAD THIS ONE ), (Macintosh LC), PowerMac 6100 (This computer sucked), My dad is currently using a PowerMac G3 350 very good computer for his needs he is due soon for a new one. I am using a iMac 600. I have never had a problem with an apple machine right out of the box. Although sense this is MY first purchase of a computer I would like to know what to check for. Those of you who, could have found problems week after buying. I am sure everthing will be all right but just want to know. So far the iPod is all good. I am waiting for the powerbook though before i put MP3s on it. Its coming just in time because I start college late on the 10th of september. A lot of people here have helped me a lot, and I have helped some of you on this board. I will know where to come when I need advice or have a problem (MacNN).

I have to wait all weekend but I guess I can do it...
