Hey Guys,

So I'm really into Warcraft3/TFT at the moment; however, it seems to run rather sluggish on my PB12" with 640MB ram. Is this what everyone else experiences? Anyone have any suggestions on what settings to make it play optimally on a 12"? Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated!

Dude, it sucks on my QS 867 too. Not much you can do about it, set all the details down I suppose.. no shadows, low texture detail, all that.. resolution probably won't make much of a difference.

Have you tried allocating max memory to the application?

he could only do that in OS 9.. (well, I guess he could quit everything in X)

it does run better in OS 9 though.. I guess that would be a suggestion.. run in OS 9

Make sure you have the latest version too, they've added some optimizations over time.

check to see if you have 3d Positional audio enabled in the WC3 sound prefs. If so, disable it since the powerbook's audio isn't EAX or Aureal-based; you're just wasting CPU power with that on. Also, as always, make sure you have all the latest patches.

I've been having similar issues with my maxed out PB12". Have had all the settings on low and it still feels quite sluggish compared to my P3-800mhz w/ integrated video which is pretty sad.

Have not tried running in OS 9. Has anyone tried it and noticed a difference?

Make sure your updated to 10.2.6, and turn off all the shaders if any in the game. I have run more demanding games then this on an iMac 600. Trust me by turning down some settings in sound even you wont notice much of a quality difference. Also check your processes using the terminal make sure you got nothing choking up the computer in the background while your running the game. I ussually keep iChat on but you may need to turn things like this off. I find it hard to believe your having trouble running this game. Check to make sure all your stuff is updated. Clear your caches, and run your crons with Cocktail. You can find Cocktail at www.versiontracker.com. Just try this stuff it doesnt take long to do it. You may also want to delete the WC prefs file, and a possible cache file for the game. If you have any questions or need additional help post back here, OR PM me. I cant wait to get my 12 should come next week. The iPod already shipped!

Well, yeah I"ve tried running it with EVERY setting on low basically. It flies on my dual ghz with gf4ti, but runs sluggish on the powerbook. I mean, don't get me wrong, i'ts playable--to an extent. I could play against an easy computer or something and probably be fine, but any heavy gaming against good people or harder cpu's is almost impossible, especially when armies...collide. I played it on a g4 550(single) graphite tower and it seemed to run better. So weird. I'm not sure if it has something to do with hard drive performance or what, but I would assume once the game loads it's all from main memory. Oh well. I"ll keep tinkering and trying to squeeze out some better performance!

Try to cool down your PB a bit (e.g. blowing a fan onto the surface of the PB) I found it gets a little bit better.
Turn off shadows and lights improve a lot~
Got a 12" Powerbook ^__^

Stupid, stupid comment. I somehow doubt that he got his powerbook expressly for gaming, but does that mean that he can't play games on it?

For the record, I think WC3 plays pretty well on my 12", but I've never played it on anything else so I don't have a frame of reference.

I think the issue is simply the graphics card on the 12''. It sucks. Plain and simple.

WC3 plays great on a PowerBook.

You could turn everything up all the way, however not many computers can play it like that when several armys start to fight.

If you turn things down, it would be fine.
