Hey all, I was wondering how hot does your powerbook get before the fan turns on? I dont think i have heard the fan on in a long time, and right now im running at 143.2 fahrenheit. Any suggestions? Should I bring it in to the Apple Store?

There was quite a long thread on this exact subject last week... may be worth a search.

Ok, for all those that are wondering, my fan does work. It turns on once the computer hits 150 degree's Fahrenheit or hotter, for anyone wondering. Was using it in class which is a completely silent place, and after it hit 150, i heard the sound of a jet plane taking off ;-). Sounds like a huge engine starting up.
Hahahaha

For OSX, freeware's Temperature Monitor or ThermoInDock MAY support CPU temp readings, depending on the Mac chip model your laptop uses. Not all chips provide CPU temp readings, and the numbers reported have very wide range of accuracy in the design, so can only be used as generalized guides, not absolutes.

Thanks a lot for the link to this cool software ^_^ I'll post my temp as soon as I have this thing up and running. So far, my Powerbook has been turned on for a week stright without shutting down, so the temp should be pretty stable.

As of now with just listening to my iTunes and checking out websites with also Entourage, Mail, MSN Messenger, Pando Calendar, CPU Monitor and Temperature Monitor running, my CPU temperature is running at 133 F
During my PC air cooling days... this temp is ok... not too warm, not too cool either. I think my average temp on my pc was running at about 110 F to 120 F using air cool. Now it'll run around 70 F to 80 F with watercool. But... I haven't seen my desktop for awhile since I gived it to my parents to use. I only use Mac now.

My PB17 never goes above 140 degrees-even with several apps running at once (Mail, Safari, iTunes, DVD Player, Temp. Monitor, Preview).
A few weeks ago as outside temperatures were at 95-100 degrees the fan came on for a few minutes-but soon shut down again.
Now-with lower temperatures my PB runs at a maximum of 130 degrees-without the fan.

Oh, forgot to add that my fan hasn't been turned on yet either. I guess that's because it only got to 135 F at the highest so far with all those apps open.

As long as the fan turns on when needed who cares. Out of sight out of mind
Oh I dont know ussually when Im playing a game or something intensive to the hard drive. The hard drive produces a lot of heat in my powerbook. Which is why the left underside is warm but not hot.

Darn.....loaded the software and it says Mac doesn't have a thermal sensor in it. Oh well, guess I will have to trade it in for a new PB when they come out!
