What works best with the ibook 500...

I need to backup my 120 external firewire drive that I use only for editing on Final Cut Pro and I need a way to backup my footage and use the drive for another project.

I mean I have 110 MB on there, so I guess that would take a lot of DVD's discs.

Maybe it's not worth it.

But I still want a DVD-R to backup my harddrive and other good stuff like make an editing reel.

I'd buy another HD for that kind of backups.. A lot more convenient than playing around with a pile of DVD's, IMO.

You can't burn demo reels with that one, of course... But I'd say with an iBook 500 you'll be in for an update soon anyway. At that time get a model with a Superdrive. You'll still have your two extra HD's for editing and backups.

How is Final Cut on an iBook 500 anyway?

Version 4 now will not run on G3 machines. Therefore if you are planning to run version 4 in the future you will need to upgrade to a G4-equipped machines too

Final Cut Pro 3 works fine for my purposes on ibook 500. I cut a feature film on it.

It was a straight narative, as opposed to a special effects type film.

So I assume editing a matrix type movie or commerical would kill the machine.

But the 576 of ram i have seemed to help.

Remember, these ibooks where just 3 or 4 years ago the top of the line editing mac... so it's not like they can't do it...

Don't you remember when you were drooling over that G3 tower with a whopping 10 GB harddrive and 128 MB of ram!
