hey, i was caught in a downpour last night with my 15" 667 vga PB in a backpack. the pb was oriented vertically, with the power switch edge facing upward. the pb was suspended, and i'm not sure if the sleep led was on when i pulled it out. the pb seemed only moist, so i opened it up. it was not sleeping and would not power on.

I let it sit overnight, and when i couldn't power it up in the morning, i took off the bottom plate. i saw a small circle of white and brown dust around a resister close to the power on edge, and on the bottom ti plate there was a little singed circle, that covers the same area. it seems like enough water seeped through the bag to get into the case through the side vent, and short out a part of the motherboard.

what do you guys suggest i do? the pb was bought on Jan 02, the lcd is still in very good shape, though the combo drive can't write cdrs anymore.

any advice will be really helpful. should i call apple to see if I can get an out-of-warranty repair, as long as they don't force me to go with the $900 tier-3 (logic board) accidental damage charge?

While this won't help you directly, I'm posting it for those who commute with their laptops as well as other pricy electronic devices.

Keep a large ziplock bag or two in the pocket of your laptop bag at all times. In the event of rain, just turn the laptop off and put it inside the ziplock bag first, then your regular bag.

I was tempted to market computer RainBags(TM) at some point...
